Driving the Future

Driving the Future is a youth driving support program by the City of Victor Harbor, providing supervised driving hours and vehicle access for learner drivers.

The Brief

Driving the Future was created to support local young people who need help accessing a vehicle and learning to drive. Spearheaded by the City of Victor Harbor’s Youth Development team, the free program had been two years in the making and was designed to meet a very real community need — providing learner drivers with access to a safe vehicle and a consistent supervisor.

The City needed a brand that could stand confidently on its own, feel positive and youth-focused, while still sitting comfortably within Council’s existing corporate identity

The Solution

The identity is built around the idea of movement and opportunity. Bold, confident ‘D’ typography creates instant recognition to the program name, while the road-inspired graphic device reinforces direction, progress, and forward momentum with a subtle wave reference to coastal location. It works both literally — referencing driving — and symbolically, representing a road forwards into the horizon.

Colour played a key role in striking the right balance. Blue anchors the brand in trust, safety, and credibility, aligning with Council expectations. Yellow introduces warmth, energy, and optimism — helping the program feel approachable and forward-looking rather than institutional.

Everything was designed with real-world use in mind. The logo and visual system needed to perform across vehicles, signage, print and digital platforms, remaining clear, legible and adaptable at every scale.

The Outcome

In just two months since launch, Driving the Future has already supported over 100 hours of supervised driving time for local learner drivers who otherwise lacked access to a car or supervisor. The program is helping young people build the experience they need to gain their provisional licence — opening doors to independence, employment, and future study opportunities.

The resulting brand reflects that impact. It’s clear, confident and optimistic without being patronising. A visual identity that feels supportive and practical, while still carrying the professionalism required of a council-led initiative. Most importantly, it looks like what it represents — a pathway forward.
