My journey into the world of design is a bit like a colourful painting with twists and turns, and it all began with crayons, sketchbooks, and a wild imagination. Back then, art was a beloved hobby, but it hadn’t yet dawned on me as a potential career path.
Then, one fateful day, I stumbled upon a golden opportunity – a chance to gain some work experience with the incredible team at Fivefold Creative. Picture this: music playing in the background, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee in the air, and me, sitting in front of a computer screen, experimenting with design in a program called Illustrator (don’t even get me started on the version). It was in that moment that I knew I had found my calling. The design world was in the midst of a technological revolution, transitioning from pasteboard markups to the powerful era of the Power Mac G4 and those nifty zip drives (which might give you a hint about my age).
Fast forward to today, and I’ve proudly accumulated over two decades of experience in the design industry. The landscape has evolved, with AI technology causing ripples of change across the field. My journey has been a rollercoaster, filled with highs, lows, and thrilling twists and turns. Yet, amid all the challenges and triumphs, one thing remains constant – my passion and joy for design.
Grant Design has been at the heart of this incredible journey, evolving over the years under the guidance of some remarkable mentors and designers. I owe a debt of gratitude to those who invested their knowledge in me, often with little thanks in return (Sorry, Brett, Bronwyn, Philippa, Anton, and Andrew!). They introduced me to the captivating world of ligatures, the enchantment of colours, and the artistry of creating enormous Photoshop montages. These lessons have shaped me into the designer I am today, and for that, I’m eternally grateful.
