AAWHG Conference

A scalable conference identity system that elevated AAWHG’s global presence and positioned the forum as a leading authority in aviation wildlife risk management.

The Brief

The Australian Aviation Wildlife Hazard Group runs one of the most specialised aviation conferences in the world — yet until 2020, the event had no clear visual identity.

Each forum existed in isolation.

There was no consistent look, no recognisable system, and nothing the global aviation wildlife community could instantly associate with AAWHG as a leader in the field.

AAWHG needed to:

  • Elevate the perceived professionalism of the forum
  • Attract world-class speakers, researchers and operators
  • Strengthen credibility with global aviation stakeholders
  • Create a visual system that could evolve every two years without losing recognition
  • In a highly technical and safety-critical industry, trust and authority matter — and the conference brand needed to reflect that.

The Solution

The solution was to build the identity from the ground up — but design it to scale forward.

Rather than creating a one-off event logo, I developed a repeatable system anchored to a single idea: the year becomes the brand.

Each forum identity centres around the event year, with silhouettes of real Australian wildlife hazard species integrated directly into the typography — beginning with the Wedge-tailed Eagle and Kangaroo. This immediately grounds the brand in the reality of aviation wildlife risk, not abstract symbolism.

The colour palette and typography were aligned with AAWHG’s existing corporate brand to maintain organisational unity, while the year-based system allows each event to refresh visually without breaking recognition.

The result is a conference identity that is:

  • Consistent across years
  • Instantly recognisable
  • Globally relevant
  • And unmistakably Australian

The Outcome

AAWHG’s forum now presents as a global leader in its niche.

Attendance has continued to grow with each event.
Speakers and delegates regularly comment on the clarity, professionalism and cohesion of the conference experience.
Sponsors see stronger value through consistent presentation and polished collateral.

From banners and programs to social assets, merchandise and sponsorship packs — every touchpoint now works as part of a single, trusted system.

Now heading into the third event under this identity framework, I’ve been proud to partner with the AAWHG team to continually evolve the brand while maintaining its authority and recognition within the global aviation community.
