The Brief
AAUS were building something the Australian drone industry had never had — a national accreditation framework that could raise standards, build public trust and clearly identify operators committed to safe, ethical aviation practice.
There was no existing visual language for this at all. No symbols. No tier markers. No shared shorthand the industry could instantly recognise.
They needed a brand that worked for lone freelancers right through to major defence primes — authoritative, future-focused and innately aviation aligned.
The Solution
I built the accreditation identity as a direct evolution of the AAUS master brand I previously designed — ensuring immediate recognition while giving the accreditation system its own authority and presence.
The concept draws on the original AAUS logo elements — three angled shapes — but reshapes and reorients them into a shield-like structure. This form signals both protection and progression, reflecting AAUS’s role in providing a secure, credible pathway for operators as they grow within the industry. The shapes build upward and outward from a solid base, creating a natural visual progression from entry-level through to advanced accreditation — directly mirroring the three-tier structure of the program. Subtly, the geometry also forms a tick, grounding the system in validation, trust, and professional recognition.
Colour was used strategically, tying each tier to real-world aviation and environmental reference points while remaining cohesive with the broader AAUS brand:
Green — Verified
Sky Blue — Advanced
Ocean Green — Leader
Typographically, Jappokki Subtract was selected for its future-forward, technical precision, reinforcing innovation and aerospace credibility, while Inter ensured clarity, accessibility, and scalability across certificates, digital platforms, and member-generated assets.
The system was intentionally designed to be simple to apply and reproduce anywhere — yet distinctive enough to become a national visual shorthand for credibility within the Australian drone industry.
The Outcome
The identity gave AAUS a visual infrastructure the entire industry could align behind. It created clarity. It legitimised the program. It provided a trust marker the public, commercial clients and government stakeholders can actually use — and gave AAUS the tools to integrate this system through member promotion, partner relationships and insurance alignment.
This wasn’t just branding — it became part of the standards framework itself.
